“The Australian Government has announced that from 23rd March, cafes & restaurants are restricted to takeaway/delivery service only.”
After this news released, I believe most of you are feeling helpless. Yes, 2020 is a tough year for all the café and restaurants. Like me, a lot of people who would normally be out in cafes are stuck at home. We’re going to take a different approach to get through this, that’s where we’re seeing cafe businesses ramping up delivery & takeaway options to stay afloat.
How can we still get closer to our customers when we only takeaway and delivery service only?
In this article, I’d love to share a few creative ideas that our team has spotted as well as a quick outline of what Australian government support you can access.
1. Pre-packed Meals
We’re seeing many cafes focused on ready meals. Pre-packed meals that customers can store in the fridge or freezer while they’re bunked down at home. It won’t take long for people to get sick of plain pasta, rice and whatever else they bought in a panic from the supermarket. This is an opportunity for customers to buy bulk food for pickup or delivery and keep it on hand

2. Delivery platform
Many cafes are already set up with a delivery platform like Ubereats, Menulog or Deliveroo.
However, some have decided to offer direct delivery to nearby homes and offices. Apart from saving the fees for using a big delivery platform. The advantage of ordering in the platform is you can see the true customer reviews and to decide which café you like.

3. Effectively using social media
Governments around the world are encouraging people to stay at home to protect health services and save lives. In another way, people spend more time on the phone or other social media as time pass. With more than 371 million posts tagged #food and 41 million with #drinks, food, and beverage photos are easily some of the most popular types of content on Instagram. it's very likely that your customers are posting with or without your interaction. Effectively Managing social media can bring many potential customer.
